Theory question 111
New Life in Christ(a) How did Paul convince the Galatians that Christians are children of God?
(b) Indicate two ways Christians should manifest themselves as children of God.
Show the model answer
(a) In Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith (Galatians 3:26).
Those baptised into Christ have put on Christ (Galatians 3:27).
All are one in Christ: neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female (Galatians 3:28).
Belonging to Christ makes them Abraham's offspring and heirs of the promise (Galatians 3:29).
An heir who is a minor is like a slave under guardians; so were they under the elemental spirits (Galatians 4:1-3).
In the fullness of time God sent His Son to redeem those under the law, that they might receive adoption as sons (Galatians 4:4-5).
God sent the Spirit of His Son into their hearts, crying "Abba! Father!" (Galatians 4:6).
So they are no longer slaves but sons and heirs (Galatians 4:7).
(b) Any two: holy living; love for others; obedience to God; being led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14); peacemaking (Matthew 5:9); forgiveness; bearing the fruit of the Spirit.
Use Galatians 3:26–4:7, then two ways.
