Theory question 105
Teachings of Jesus about HimselfWhat was Jesus teaching about himself as the Living Bread? In what two ways is this teaching significant?
Show the model answer
After the feeding of the five thousand, the crowd followed Jesus to Capernaum (John 6:22-25).
He told them not to labour for food that perishes but for food that endures to eternal life (John 6:27).
They mentioned manna; He said it was not Moses but His Father who gives the true bread from heaven (John 6:31-33).
"I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst" (John 6:35).
Whoever comes to Him He will not cast out; all who believe will be raised at the last day (John 6:37-40).
Their fathers ate manna and died; He is the living bread; whoever eats it will live for ever; the bread is His flesh for the life of the world (John 6:49-51).
Unless they eat His flesh and drink His blood they have no life (John 6:53-56).
Many disciples left; Peter said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life" (John 6:66-68).
Significance (any two): Jesus alone satisfies spiritual hunger; believing in Him gives eternal life; it points to His sacrificial death; basis of the Holy Communion; believers must depend on Him daily.
Explain John 6 "I am the bread of life" and give two points of significance.
