Question 37

Mensuration of Plane Shapes

The height and base of a triangle are in ratio 1 : 3 respectively. If the area of the triangle is 216cm2, find the length of the base.

  1. A.24cm
  2. B.36cm
  3. C.72cm
  4. D.144cm.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (36cm)

Explanation

Let height = h, base = 3h. ½ × 3h × h = 216, so h2 = 144, h = 12 and the base is 36 cm.
