Theory question 106
Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus(a) Describe the appearance of the Risen Christ to the two men on their way to Emmaus. (b) What three benefits do Christians derive from the resurrection of Jesus Christ?
Show the model answer
(a) Two disciples were going to Emmaus, talking about all that had happened (Luke 24:13-14).
Jesus drew near and walked with them, but they did not recognise Him (Luke 24:15-16).
Cleopas told Him about Jesus' death, their lost hope and the empty tomb (Luke 24:18-24).
Jesus called them slow of heart and explained the scriptures about Himself (Luke 24:25-27).
They urged Him to stay; at table He blessed and broke bread and they recognised Him; He vanished (Luke 24:28-31).
Their hearts had burned as He opened the scriptures (Luke 24:32).
They returned to Jerusalem and told the eleven (Luke 24:33-35).
(b) Any three: assurance of eternal life; forgiveness and justification (Romans 4:25); hope of our own resurrection; victory over death and sin; proof that Jesus is the Son of God; Christ's living presence.
Narrate Luke 24:13-35, then three benefits.
