Joshua and the Judges(a) Discuss the appointment of Joshua as Moses' successor. (b) What three qualities of Joshua can be recommended for leaders of today?
Show the model answer
(a) God told Moses he would see the land but die without entering it (Numbers 27:12-14).
Moses asked God to appoint a man to lead the people so they would not be sheep without a shepherd (Numbers 27:15-17).
God told him to take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay his hand on him (Numbers 27:18).
He was to set him before Eleazar the priest and the congregation and commission him in their sight (Numbers 27:19).
Moses was to give him some of his authority so all Israel would obey (Numbers 27:20).
Moses did so (Numbers 27:22-23).
Moses encouraged him before all Israel: "Be strong and of good courage… the Lord will be with you" (Deuteronomy 31:7-8).
After Moses' death Joshua was full of the spirit of wisdom and the people obeyed him (Deuteronomy 34:9).
(b) Any three: faith in God; courage; obedience; loyalty to his master; humility and readiness to serve; good military and administrative skill; integrity.
Use Numbers 27 and Deuteronomy 31, 34, then three qualities.
