Theory question 112
Humility(a) Explain Peter's advice to the elders and members of the church in their interpersonal relationships. (b) State two duties of a good church leader.
Show the model answer
(a) Peter, a fellow elder and witness of Christ's sufferings, exhorts the elders (1 Peter 5:1).
Tend the flock of God, not by constraint but willingly (1 Peter 5:2).
Not for shameful gain but eagerly (1 Peter 5:2).
Not domineering over those in your charge but being examples to the flock (1 Peter 5:3).
When the chief Shepherd appears they will receive the unfading crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4).
Younger members should be subject to the elders (1 Peter 5:5).
All should clothe themselves with humility toward one another, for God opposes the proud (1 Peter 5:5).
Humble yourselves under God's mighty hand; cast your anxieties on Him; be sober, watchful and resist the devil (1 Peter 5:6-9).
(b) Any two: teaching and preaching God's word; caring for members, visiting the sick; being an example of godly living; settling disputes; praying for members; managing church resources honestly.
Explain 1 Peter 5:1-9, then two duties.
