Model answer

(a) After Saul's death there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David; Abner made himself strong in Saul's house (2 Samuel 3:1, 6).
Ishbosheth accused Abner of going in to Rizpah, Saul's concubine (2 Samuel 3:7).
Abner was angry and swore to transfer the kingdom to David (2 Samuel 3:8-10).
He sent messengers to David offering a covenant to bring all Israel to him (2 Samuel 3:12).
David agreed on condition that Michal, Saul's daughter, be returned to him; she was taken from Paltiel and sent back (2 Samuel 3:13-16).
Abner persuaded the elders of Israel and Benjamin to make David king (2 Samuel 3:17-19).
He came to Hebron with twenty men; David made a feast for him and sent him away in peace (2 Samuel 3:20-21).
(b) Any two: forgiveness and reconciliation bring peace; enemies can become allies; leaders should be willing to negotiate; anger can lead to wise or unwise decisions; God fulfils His plans through people.

Explanation

Narrate 2 Samuel 3:6-21, then two lessons.
