A well-lagged bar of length 100 cm has its ends maintained at 100 °C and 40 °C respectively. What is the temperature at a point 60 cm from the hotter end?

Explanation

In a lagged bar the temperature falls evenly: 60 °C over 100 cm, i.e. 0.6 °C per cm. 60 cm from the hot end it is 100 − 36 = 64 °C.
