JAMB Mathematics 2000 Question 24

Question 24

Mensuration of Solids

A frustum of pyramid with square base has its upper and lower sections as square of sizes 2cm and 5cm respectively and the distance between them 6cm. Find the height of the pyramid from which the frustum was obtained.

  1. A.8.0m
  2. B.8.4m
  3. C.9.0m
  4. D.10.0m
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (10.0m)

Explanation

By similar shapes, height/5 = (height − 6)/2. So 2H = 5H − 30, giving H = 10.
