JAMB Mathematics 1994 Question 28

Question 28

Triangles and Quadrilaterals

If three angles of a quadrilateral are (3y − x − z)°, 3x°, (2z − 2y − x)°, find the fourth angle in terms of x, y and z.

  1. A.(360 − x − y − z)°
  2. B.(360 + x + y − z)°
  3. C.(180 − x + y + z)°
  4. D.(180 + x + y + z)°
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: A ((360 − x − y − z)°)

Explanation

The three angles add up to (3y − x − z) + 3x + (2z − 2y − x) = x + y + z. The angles of a quadrilateral total 360°, so the fourth is (360 − x − y − z)°.
