Question 16

Graphs of Functions

The figure above represents the graphs of y = x(2 − x) and y = (x − 1)(x − 3). What are the x coordinates of P, Q and R respectively?

Diagram for this question
  1. A.1, 3, 2
  2. B.0, 0, 0
  3. C.0, 2, 3
  4. D.1, 2, 3
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (1, 2, 3)

Explanation

P, Q and R are where the curves cut the x-axis. y = (x − 1)(x − 3) cuts it at 1 and 3; y = x(2 − x) cuts it at 0 and 2. From the figure P = 1, Q = 2 and R = 3.
