JAMB Mathematics 1978 Question 37

Question 37

Triangles and Quadrilaterals

Two triangles have the same area if

  1. A.Two sides in one triangle are equal to two sides in the other
  2. B.Three sides in one triangle are equal to three sides in the other
  3. C.Two angles in one triangle are equal to two angles in the other.
  4. D.Three angles in one triangle are equal to three angles in the other.
  5. E.One side and the opposite angle in one triangle are equal to one side and the opposite angle in the other.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (Three sides in one triangle are equal to three sides in the other)

Explanation

Three equal sides (SSS) make the triangles congruent, so their areas must be equal. The other conditions allow triangles of different sizes or shapes.
