JAMB Chemistry 2008 Question 3

Question 3

Mole Concept and Stoichiometry

2Na(s) + 2H2O(l) → 2NaOH(aq) + H2(g)
From the equation above, calculate the mass of sodium hydroxide produced by 2.3g of sodium. [H = 1, O = 16, Na = 23]

  1. A.0.40g
  2. B.0.80g
  3. C.4.00g
  4. D.8.00g.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (4.00g)

Explanation

2.3 g Na = 0.1 mol, which gives 0.1 mol NaOH (1 : 1). Mass = 0.1 × 40 = 4.00 g.
