Theory question 102
Farm PowerWrite short notes on the following sources of farm power:
(a) Work animals
(b) Machine engines
(c) Water
(d) Sun.
Show the model answer
(a) Work animals (bulls, donkeys, camels): used for ploughing, ridging and transport; cheap and give manure; but slow, tire, need feeding and get sick
(b) Machine engines (petrol/diesel, tractors): fast, powerful, do heavy work over large areas; but expensive, need fuel, skilled operators and spare parts; cause pollution
(c) Water: drives water wheels/turbines for grinding and generating hydro-electricity; used for irrigation and processing; only available near rivers/dams
(d) Sun: solar energy for drying crops, fish and hay, photosynthesis, solar panels for electricity and pumps; free but not available at night or in cloudy weather
For each source give uses, one advantage and one disadvantage.
