Question 16

Mensuration of Solids

A sector of a circle of radius 14 cm containing an angle 60° is folded to form a cone. Calculate the radius of the base of the cone.

  1. A.5½ cm
  2. B.4⅔ cm
  3. C.3½ cm
  4. D.2⅓ cm
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (2⅓ cm)

Explanation

Arc length = circumference of base: (60/360) × 2π × 14 = 2πr, so r = 14/6 = 2⅓ cm.
