WAEC Mathematics 2003 Question 45

Question 45

Constructions

In constructing an angle, Olu draws line OX. With centre O and a convenient radius, he draws an arc intersecting OX at P. With centres P and the same radius, he draws an arc intersecting the first arc at Q and finally joins OQ. What is the size of angle POQ so constructed?

  1. A.90°
  2. B.75°
  3. C.60°
  4. D.45°
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (60°)

Explanation

OP = OQ = PQ (all the same radius), so triangle OPQ is equilateral and ∠POQ = 60°.
