Question 42

Mensuration of Solids

A right pyramid is on a square base of side 4 cm. The slanting side of the pyramid is 2√3 cm. Calculate the volume of the pyramid.

  1. A.5 1/3 cm3
  2. B.10 2/3 cm3
  3. C.16cm3
  4. D.32cm3
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (10 2/3 cm3)

Explanation

Half the base diagonal = 2√2, so height = √(12 − 8) = 2 cm. V = ⅓ × 16 × 2 = 10 2/3 cm3.
