WAEC Mathematics 1999 Question 19

Question 19

Triangles and Quadrilaterals

Calculate the value of y from the diagram

Diagram for this question
  1. A.18°
  2. B.42°
  3. C.48°
  4. D.132°.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (48°)

Explanation

Through the vertex of y draw a line parallel to the two given lines. One arm of y makes 180 − 105 = 75° with it and the other makes 180 − 123 = 57° with it on the other side, so y = 180 − 75 − 57 = 48°.
