Question 18

Mensuration of Solids

The cross-section of a prism is a right-angled triangle 3cm by 4cm by 5cm. The height of the prism is 8cm. Calculate its volume

  1. A.48cm3
  2. B.60cm3
  3. C.96cm3
  4. D.120cm3
  5. E.240cm3
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: A (48cm3)

Explanation

The right angle is between the 3 cm and 4 cm sides, so the cross-section is ½ × 3 × 4 = 6 cm2. Volume = 6 × 8 = 48 cm3.
