WAEC Mathematics 1994 Question 19

Question 19

Coordinate Geometry

Use the graph to answer this question. What is the equation of the line PQ?

Diagram for this question
  1. A.y = x − 5
  2. B.y = x + 3
  3. C.y = x + 5
  4. D.y = 2x + 3
  5. E.y = 2x − 3
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (y = x + 5)

Explanation

P(−2, 3) and Q(2, 7): gradient = (7 − 3)/(2 − (−2)) = 1. Using y = x + c with (2, 7) gives c = 5, so y = x + 5.
