WAEC Mathematics 1994 Question 13

Question 13

Linear and Simultaneous Equations

Given that 2p − m = 6 and 2p + 4m = 1, find the value of (4p + 3m).

  1. A.1
  2. B.3
  3. C.5
  4. D.7
  5. E.9
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (7)

Explanation

Subtracting the equations gives 5m = −5, so m = −1 and p = 2.5. Then 4p + 3m = 10 − 3 = 7.
