(a) Foreign policy is the set of goals, principles and strategies a state follows in dealing with other states and international organisations in pursuit of its national interest.
(b) Any five: national interest; size and population; economic strength and natural resources (oil); military strength; geographical location (neighbours); type of government and leadership/personality of leaders; public opinion and pressure groups; colonial history and ties (Commonwealth); international organisations and treaties; ideology (non-alignment).
