(b) Dispersed/isolated: single homesteads scattered over farmland; nucleated: houses clustered round a centre such as a market, water point or junction; linear: houses strung along a road, river or coast. (Or by size: farmstead, hamlet, village.)
(c) Rural: small population, urban: large; rural: primary activities, urban: secondary and tertiary; rural: few amenities, urban: many (hospitals, banks, electricity); rural: low density, scattered buildings; urban: high density, tall buildings; rural: homogeneous people, urban: mixed; rural: simple layout and few roads, urban: planned road network; lower cost of living in rural areas.
