(a) Town: larger population and area; mainly non-farming jobs (trade, industry, services); more amenities (hospitals, banks, schools); planned layout and taller buildings; heterogeneous population; focus of routes. Village: small population; mainly farming; few amenities; unplanned; homogeneous people.
(b) Market for village produce and source of manufactured goods (e.g. Onitsha market); services such as hospitals, secondary schools, banks; jobs for villagers; administrative services (local government headquarters); transport links; news and new ideas.
