WAEC Further Mathematics 2015 Theory question 104

Theory question 104

Trigonometry

Solve: tan(2x − 15)° − 1 = 0, for values of x such that 0° ≤ x ≤ 360°.

Show the model answer
Model answer

tan(2x − 15)° = 1. For 0 ≤ x ≤ 360, 2x − 15 runs from −15 to 705.
2x − 15 = 45, 225, 405, 585.
x = 30°, 120°, 210°, 300°.

Explanation

tan repeats every 180°, and 2x − 15 covers almost two full turns.
