(a)(i) A database is an organised collection of related data stored so that it can be easily accessed, managed and updated.
(ii) A DBMS is software used to create, store, retrieve, update and control access to data in a database (e.g. MS Access, Oracle, MySQL).
(b) Any three: data definition (creating/changing table structures); data storage and retrieval (queries); updating data (insert, modify, delete); security and access control; backup and recovery; controlling concurrent use by many users; maintaining data integrity.
(c) Any two: virus attack; accidental deletion; hardware failure or disk crash; power failure; fire, flood or other disaster; theft or sabotage/hacking.
(d) Any three: keep regular back-ups (off-site); install and update antivirus software; use passwords/access control; use a UPS and surge protectors; train users and handle storage media carefully.
