Model answer

(a) Nebuchadnezzar made Zedekiah king; Zedekiah did evil and rebelled against Babylon (2 Kings 24:17-20).
In his ninth year Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem and built siegeworks (2 Kings 25:1).
The siege lasted until the eleventh year; famine was severe and there was no food (2 Kings 25:2-3).
The wall was breached; Zedekiah and his soldiers fled by night toward the Arabah (2 Kings 25:4).
The Chaldeans overtook him in the plains of Jericho; his army scattered (2 Kings 25:5).
At Riblah his sons were slain before his eyes; his eyes were put out and he was taken in fetters to Babylon (2 Kings 25:6-7).
Nebuzaradan burnt the temple, the king's house and all the great houses and broke down the walls (2 Kings 25:8-10).
The people were carried into exile; only the poorest were left as vinedressers and farmers (2 Kings 25:11-12).
The bronze pillars and temple vessels were carried to Babylon; the chief priests and officials were executed (2 Kings 25:13-21).
(b) Any four: bad leadership and corruption; poverty and unemployment; tribal and religious conflicts; election rigging; injustice and human-rights abuses; unequal distribution of resources; drug abuse; terrorism.

Explanation

Narrate 2 Kings 25:1-21, then four causes.
