Theory question 105
Teachings of Jesus about HimselfHow did Jesus explain to Martha and Thomas separately, that He is the resurrection and the life?
Show the model answer
To Martha: Lazarus had died; Martha met Jesus and said that if He had been there her brother would not have died (John 11:17-21).
Jesus said, "Your brother will rise again"; she thought He meant the resurrection at the last day (John 11:23-24).
Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die" (John 11:25-26).
Martha confessed Him as the Christ, the Son of God (John 11:27).
He proved it by raising Lazarus after four days in the tomb (John 11:39-44).
To Thomas: Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for them and they knew the way (John 14:1-4).
Thomas said they did not know where He was going, so how could they know the way (John 14:5).
Jesus answered, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me" (John 14:6).
Later Jesus showed Thomas His wounds after His own resurrection, and Thomas confessed "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:26-28).
Use John 11 for Martha and John 14 (and 20) for Thomas.
