God promised to make him a great nation, bless him, make his name great and make him a blessing (Genesis 12:2).
He would bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him; in him all families of the earth would be blessed (Genesis 12:3).
Abram obeyed and left Haran aged seventy-five, with Sarai, Lot and all their possessions and people (Genesis 12:4-5).
He reached Canaan and passed to Shechem, the oak of Moreh (Genesis 12:6).
The Lord appeared and promised the land to his descendants; Abram built an altar there (Genesis 12:7).
He moved to the hill east of Bethel, built another altar and called on the name of the Lord (Genesis 12:8).
Ways God calls today (any four): through the Bible/preaching; dreams and visions; an inner conviction by the Holy Spirit; through other people such as pastors and parents; through circumstances, events or crises; through prayer.
