Model answer

(a) Farm mechanisation is the use of machines (tractors and power-driven implements and processing machines) to carry out farm operations in place of human and animal labour
(b) Advantages (any seven): timely operations; larger area cultivated; higher output; reduces drudgery; saves labour cost in the long run; better quality work; encourages large-scale/commercial farming; makes farming attractive to youths; supplies agro-industries; increases income
Disadvantages (any seven): high cost of machines and spare parts; displaces labour/unemployment; soil compaction and structure damage; encourages erosion; pollution (noise, fumes); needs skilled operators and mechanics; unsuitable for small, scattered or hilly plots; destroys soil organisms; fuel costs; accidents

Explanation

Seven distinct points on each side.
