Question 20

Temperature and Thermometers

The length of mercury thread when it is at 0 °C, 100 °C and at an unknown temperature θ is 25 mm, 225 mm and 175 mm respectively. The value of θ is

  1. A.85.0 °C
  2. B.80.0 °C
  3. C.75.0 °C
  4. D.70.0 °C
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (75.0 °C)

Explanation

θ = (175 − 25)/(225 − 25) × 100 = 150/200 × 100 = 75.0 °C.
