Question 15

Temperature and Thermometers

A thermometer with an arbitrary scale, S, of equal divisions registers −30°S at the ice point and +90°S at the steam point. Calculate the Celcius temperature corresponding to 60°S.

  1. A.25.0°C
  2. B.50.0°C
  3. C.66.7°C
  4. D.75.0°C
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (75.0°C)

Explanation

θ = (60 − (−30))/(90 − (−30)) × 100 = 90/120 × 100 = 75°C.
