JAMB Physics 1990 Question 15

Question 15

Temperature and Thermometers

The resistances of a platinum wire at the ice and steam points are 0.75 ohm and 1.05 ohm respectively. Determine the temperature at which the resistance of the wire is 0.90 ohm.

  1. A.43.0°C
  2. B.50.0°C
  3. C.69.9°C
  4. D.87.0°C
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (50.0°C)

Explanation

θ = (0.90 − 0.75)/(1.05 − 0.75) × 100 = 0.15/0.30 × 100 = 50°C.
