JAMB Mathematics 2008 Question 17

Question 17

Inequalities

Find the range of values of x which satisfy the inequalities 4x − 7 ≤ 3x and 3x − 4 ≤ 4x.

  1. A.−4 ≤ x ≤ 7
  2. B.−7 ≤ x ≤ 4
  3. C.x ≥ −7
  4. D.−7 ≤ x ≤ 6
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: A (−4 ≤ x ≤ 7)

Explanation

4x − 7 ≤ 3x gives x ≤ 7, and 3x − 4 ≤ 4x gives x ≥ −4. Together −4 ≤ x ≤ 7.
