JAMB Mathematics 2004 Question 24

Question 24

Angles and Polygons

The sum of the interior angles of a pentagon is 6x + 6y. Find y in terms of x.

  1. A.y = 60 − x
  2. B.y = 90 − x
  3. C.y = 120 − x
  4. D.y = 150 − x
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (y = 90 − x)

Explanation

A pentagon's angles add to 540°, so 6x + 6y = 540, x + y = 90 and y = 90 − x.
