Question 28

Mensuration of Plane Shapes

A chord of a circle subtends an angle of 120° at the centre of a circle of diameter 4√3cm. Calculate the area of the major sector.

  1. A.4πcm2
  2. B.32πcm2
  3. C.16πcm2
  4. D.8πcm2
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (8πcm2)

Explanation

The radius is 2√3 cm, so r2 = 12. The major sector has angle 360° − 120° = 240°, giving area (240/360) × π × 12 = 8π cm2.
