JAMB Mathematics 1991 Question 42

Question 42

Bearings

From a point Z, 60m north of X, a man walks 60√3m eastwards to another point Y. Find the bearing of Y from X.

  1. A.030°
  2. B.045°
  3. C.060°
  4. D.090°
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (060°)

Explanation

From X, Y is 60m north and 60√3m east. tan θ = 60√3/60 = √3 measured from north, so θ = 60° and the bearing is 060°.
