JAMB Mathematics 1991 Question 31

Question 31

Triangles and Quadrilaterals

The angles of a quadrilateral are 5x − 30, 4x + 60, 60 − x and 3x + 61. Find the smallest of these angles.

  1. A.5x − 30
  2. B.4x + 60
  3. C.60 − x
  4. D.3x + 61
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (60 − x)

Explanation

The angles add up to 360°: 11x + 151 = 360, so x = 19. The angles are 65°, 136°, 41° and 118°, so the smallest is 60 − x.
