JAMB Mathematics 1990 Question 42

Question 42

Mensuration of Solids

A cylindrical pipe, made of metal, is 3cm thick, if the internal radius of the pipe is 10cm, find the volume of metal used in making 3m of the pipe.

  1. A.153πcm3
  2. B.207πcm3
  3. C.15,300πcm3
  4. D.20,700πcm3
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (20,700πcm3)

Explanation

The outer radius is 13cm and the length is 300cm. Volume of metal = π(132 − 102) × 300 = 69 × 300π = 20,700πcm3.
