JAMB Mathematics 1989 Question 44

Question 44

Mensuration of Solids

A cylindrical metal pipe 1m long has an outer diameter of 7.2cm and an inner diameter of 2.8cm. Find the volume of metal used for the cylinder.

  1. A.440πcm3
  2. B.1,100πcm3
  3. C.4,400πcm3
  4. D.11,000πcm3
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (1,100πcm3)

Explanation

Volume of metal = π/4 × (D² − d²) × length = π/4 × (51.84 − 7.84) × 100 = π/4 × 44 × 100 = 1,100π cm³.
