Question 14

Triangles and Quadrilaterals

In the figure below PS bisects angle QPR. Find the ratio SR:QR

Diagram for this question
  1. A.1:2
  2. B.1:3
  3. C.1:4
  4. D.1:5
  5. E.1:6
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: D (1:5)

Explanation

The angle bisector divides the opposite side in the ratio of the other two sides: QS : SR = PQ : PR = 4 : 1. So SR is 1 part out of 5 and SR : QR = 1 : 5.
