JAMB Chemistry 2010 Question 15

Question 15

Solubility and Solutions

Calculate the solubility in mol dm−3 of 40g of CuSO4 dissolved in 100g of water at 120°C. [Cu = 64, S = 32, O = 16]

  1. A.4.00
  2. B.2.50
  3. C.0.40
  4. D.0.25
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: B (2.50)

Explanation

CuSO4 = 160 g/mol, so 40 g = 0.25 mol in 100 g (≈ 100 cm3) of water. Per 1000 cm3: 0.25 × 10 = 2.50 mol dm−3.
