JAMB Chemistry 2007 Question 2

Question 2

Rates of Reaction

In the diagram above, the respective activation energies for the catalyzed and uncatalyzed reactions in kJ are

Diagram for this question
  1. A.45 and 50
  2. B.50 and 45
  3. C.30 and 35
  4. D.40 and 45.
Show the answer and explanation

Answer: C (30 and 35)

Explanation

Activation energy = peak energy − energy of reactants. Reactants A + B are at 15 kJ; the catalysed peak is 45 kJ (45 − 15 = 30) and the uncatalysed peak is 50 kJ (50 − 15 = 35).
