Show the model answer
(a) A bank reconciliation statement: a statement prepared by the account holder to explain the difference and bring the cash book (bank column) balance into agreement with the bank statement balance, after first updating the cash book.
(b) Any four, each explained:
- Unpresented cheques: cheques issued and entered in the cash book but not yet presented to the bank.
- Uncredited cheques/lodgements: amounts paid in and entered in the cash book but not yet credited by the bank.
- Bank charges and commission: deducted by the bank but not yet in the cash book.
- Standing orders/direct debits: payments made by the bank on instruction, not yet in the cash book.
- Credit transfers/direct credits and interest or dividends received by the bank: on the statement, not in the cash book.
- Dishonoured cheques: returned unpaid by the bank.
- Errors by the bank or errors in the cash book.
Name the statement first, then give four timing or error differences, each with a one-line explanation.
