(a) The executive is the arm that carries out laws and runs government; at federal level it is headed by the President (Head of State and Commander-in-Chief), with the Vice-President, ministers and the public service; Governors and commissioners at state level.
(b) Any six: implements laws and policies for the people's welfare; maintains law and order and protects rights; assents to bills; conducts foreign relations; prepares the budget for legislative approval; appoints officials subject to confirmation; respects checks and balances and court decisions; provides an atmosphere for free elections; grants prerogative of mercy.
